Alderweireld suggests he could make transfer u-turn, Tottenham Hotspur fans react

A day does not seem to go by when Toby Alderweireld’s Tottenham Hotspur future is not mentioned in some capacity.

Either the fans are debating the latest update, or media publications are speculating about his transfer wrangle.

The latest twist has come from the horse’s mouth, with the Belgium international telling reporters that he could end up staying at the club.

Numerous publications, including Sky Sports, reported quotes attributed to Alderweireld claiming that he is unsure about where his future lies, but is not ruling out remaining at Tottenham.

“Yeah, why not? I have two years left on my contract. I don’t know what is going to happen.”

The dilemma from Tottenham’s point of view relates to a clause in the defender’s current contract which means that he will be available for a cut price next summer.

If the club do not sell in this window, they run the risk of getting a low figure or no figure at all if Alderweireld sees out his deal.

Manchester United were thought to be the frontrunners, but on Tuesday, the Manchester Evening News claimed that the Belgian was no longer a top target for Jose Mourinho.

Since Alderweireld indicated that he could stay put, Tottenham fans have given mixed responses to the comments.
