Absolutely not: Leeds United fans don’t want Stewart Downing

Leeds United fans are all in agreement after they were asked whether or not the club should sign Stewart Downing.

The winger’s contract at Middlesbrough will expire this summer and he will soon be available on a free transfer.

Despite the former England international being available for absolutely nothing, United fans were adamant that they shouldn’t make a move for him.

The wide player’s best years are quite clearly behind him, and Leeds supporters believe he no longer has the ability to play for their team.

The former Liverpool man has plenty of top-level experience, but now aged 34 he has lost a lot of his physical attributes.

With Marcelo Bielsa’s system being so dependent on a high work rate and a pace on the wings, Downing wouldn’t fit in the Argentine’s plans.

The Englishman appeared 38 times for Boro last season, but he scored just two goals and made one assist.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying about Downing on social media…
